“The California Kid” Express Pickup

Throughout the Slover family's tenure at Pete and Jake's Hot Rod Parts, their close friend Bill Paul has been a constant presence, joining them at shows and witnessing the admiration for the iconic California Kid. Reflecting on his experiences, Paul emphasizes the profound respect the hot rod community has for this legendary car, seeing it as a timeless symbol of hot rodding and street rodding.

When Paul embarked on his own hot rod project, the California Kid remained at the forefront of his mind. Wanting to pay homage to the iconic vehicle without simply replicating it, Paul envisioned a 1934 Ford pickup that captured the essence of the original while incorporating its own unique flair. Collaborating with designer Jimmy Smith of Jimmy's Hot Rod Design, Paul brought his vision to life, resulting in a stunning tribute truck that seamlessly blends classic truck styling with the sleek lines of a car. A dedicated team of craftsmen, including Jimmy Hervatin, Colton Hardison, and Bobby Schumacher, meticulously executed the design, handcrafting every detail to perfection.

The California Kid Express, as it came to be known, made its debut at the 2024 Grand National Roadster Show, coinciding with significant anniversaries in automotive history. While it didn't claim the top prize, the truck made a lasting impression on the national stage, solidifying its status as a standout in the world of hot rodding.
